Leybourne Go Tri & Ironman Vitoria-Gasteiz

GO TRI – Leybourne Lakes – 14th July – 200m Lake Swim; 10k Bike; 2.5k Run 
 
Dionne Grant dipped her toe into the world of triathlons completing her first GO TRI event held at Leybourne Lakes Country Park. Quickest out the lake she jumped on the bike for the 10k ride and off onto the 2.5km run which she completed in 1hr 29m. Dionne loved it and is already looking forward to entering her next triathlon. 
 
Ironman Vitoria-Gasteiz – Spain – 14th July – 3.8km Swim; 180km Bike; 42.2km Run
 
Steve Fisher travelled to northern Spain to compete in an Ironman Vitoria-Gasteiz. Steve set off on the 3.8km swim in lake Ullíbarri-Gamboa, the biggest water reservoir in Euskadi. Onto to the 180km fast and scenic bike course which follows the lake shores and the beautiful countryside and towns of the Álava region. Onto the 4 lapped 42.2km run through the old town in the heart of the city Steve finished in 12hr 3mins 35s placing him 101st out of 198 in his age category and 1042nd overall out of a field of 1730 competitors. Well done Steve. 

Ocean Lake Sprint Tri & Go Tri

Leybourne Lakes were busy with 2 events…the first was a Sprint tri which 2 Striders too part in. A 750m swim in the lake followed by a 18k bike and 5k run around the lake Katy Jackson crossed the line in 1:30:24 placing her 61st overall out of 80 entrants with Kevin Eastop close behind in 1:36:50 70th overall.

 

The second event was a GO TRI event a great way for novices and beginners to have a go at Triathlons for the first time with a 400m swim in the lake, a 10km bike and a 2500m run to end. 
This was the first Triathlon for 2 Striders…Andrew Howes who crossed the line in 38:43 4th overall out of 17th entrants and Gina Woodfine 40:04 1st lady and 5th overall! 
 

Go Tri Herne Bay Triathlon ​

6 members of the Striders running club had their first dip into the world of triathlons at Go Tri in Herne Bay. This shorter distance pool based triathlon was a great way for them to try out the 3 disciplined event and all came in in the top 10! Andy Baptie was first Strider and also 1st overall out of 23 participants in a time of 26:14. Rachel Ward was 1st female Strider home and 3rd female overall in a time of 27:47. Andrea Humphreys came in 3rd Strider spot in a time of 29:04 placing her 5th overall.
