Also putting in some serious mileage was Andy Patching, Vanessa Patching and Teresa Watson who travelled to the Cyclopark in Gravesend to take part in the Saxon Norman Viking run. The trio ran varying distances to cover over 40-mile between them. Vanessa ran 10.5-miles in 1.54, Teresa 13.1 in 2.14 and Andy a staggering 20-miles in 2.56, smashing the 3-hour mark. A sub 4-hour marathon is surely on the cards for this strider come the marathon.

The aim of these events is to complete as many 3.74-5.25 mile loops as you wish in the 6 hour cut off. They are famous for their epic medals and bursting goody bags.
Saturday’s run celebrated the Winter Olympic Games taking place in Pyeongchang with olympic sized bling. Darren Billing completed 15.75 miles in a time of 2:21:56 Teresa Watson completed 21 miles in a time of 3:56:50.
Sunday’s run was celebrating music legends…this time it was the life of Freddie Mercury and Queen. Jamie Goldthorp and Roy Shears both ran 16 miles in 2:35:00 Clare Fox completed 10.83 miles in 2:25:17
Cyclopark Relay Duathlon : Sunday 22nd October
Striders were out in force on a windy sunny October morning @ Gravesend’s Cyclopark. 11 teams of 3 entered the event which was a great opportunity for many from the club to have their first try at a multi disciplined event on a traffic free course.
‘The Glory Hunters’ were the first Striders team home in a time of 2.39.35 placing them 7th out 19 mixed teams

Sittingbourne Striders entered four teams in the annual Cyclopark team duathlon. The event, aimed at novice duathletes and more experienced competitors alike, consisted of a 3k run/ 13k bike/ 3k run course with each of the team of three completing the course in turn. Seven of the twelve Striders entrants were new to the sport of duathlon, however the cool early morning conditions suited both runners and riders on the closed Cyclopark circuit.
First Striders team home, taking second overall in the mixed team category were Ian Gower, Karen Seymour and Steve Shrimplin. They were followed by Shelly Coker/ Jen Coleman/ Lee Simpson, Keith Whiskin/ John Nunes/ Roy Shears and Jamie Goldthorp/ Barbara Collier/ Alison Davey. 2016 is the fourth year in succession Striders have taken a podium place in the event.
