Event: Harbour Wallbanger
Date: 23rd July 2016
Location: Viking Bay, Broadstairs
Distance: 7k Beach Run

16 Striders had a trip to the seaside on a lovely sunny morning but before they could receive a stick of rock and a medal they had to take part in the 7th race in the Club Champs – The Harbour Wallbanger. Trying to find the hardest sand to place their feet was a difficult task, along the beach to the harbour wall, which they had to ‘bang’, hence the name, and run back.

Paul Williams, our club chairman, led the way as first strider home in a time of 32.37 placing him 13th in a field (or beach!) of 181 runners. Second Strider home was Bogac Ibrahim in a time of 33.19 placing him 18th overall. Taking third position and 20th overall was Christian Martin in a time of 33.33. Emma Pomeroy was first female Strider home in a time of 37.34, placing her 52nd overall and Emma also won her age group category!

In true Sittingbourne Striders supportive style 6 members of the triathlon club rode from Sittingbourne to Broadstairs on their bikes to cheer their fellow Club members on.
