Sunday was a quieter day for the Sittingbourne Striders following a busy March, in part due to many runners entering the ‘tapering’ phase of their preparations for the April marathon season!
However, a few hardy souls faced the hours less sleep with considerable fortitude and took part in some longer runs. Gavin and Sheila Malloch (pictured) traveled to Somerset to take part in the hilly Yeovil Half Marathon, finishing in 2hrs7mins9secs and 2hrs30mins34secs respectively. Results
Alison Davey was the first strider over the line in the Adun and Worthing 20 mile race, finishing in 3hrs18mins54 secs, joined by Ronald Smith who finished in 3hrs28mins49secs. Results
Finally, Teresa Watson took part in the SVN Funky Pants Challenge in Gravesend, running a trail route of 21 miles in 3hrs40mins38secs. Results

The Sittingbourne Striders braved the 50mph winds to take part in the Lydd 20 mile race on Sunday, a fast and flat course popular with those training for the Spring marathon season, and the third race in the Striders Club Championship.
Lee Simpson was the first Strider over the line in 2hrs21mins50secs, finishing 42nd overall. Bragging rights for the first lady Strider home went to Alison Davey, who finished in 3hrs18min45secs

Rebecca Still led a small group of Striders around the shorter but just as windy Lydd Half Marathon in 2hrs0mins22secs, just in front of Martin Stevens (2hrs1mins3secs), Amanda Claridge (2hrs4mins5secs) and Alex Powell (2hrs5mins9secs).
A trio of striders took part in the Maidstone Half Marathon, Ceri Burr was first home at 1hr45min50secs, beating club mate Darren Billing who came in at 1hr48min31secs. Caroline Lewis was the only lady Strider finishing in 1hr51min47secs. Finally, Gareth Lewis was the sole strider to take part in the Maidstone 10k in an impressive 40mins20secs
Oliver Pryer took 72nd place in the Lydd 20-mile event held on Sunday, 11 March 2018. The Sittingbourne Strider runner completed the course in a personal best time of 2.25.
Next home for the club in a speedy 2.49.46 was Darren James.
3rd Strider back in 226th place was Paul Williams in 2.52.48. His time was good enough to earn him 6th place in his age category of Male Vet 60+
Sarah Bradshaw was the first lady finisher for the Striders in 2.53.24. This was good enough for 56th lady and 13th in her age category of female vet 40+. Full Results
In total 13 striders completed the huge endurance effort. Many of the runners will now be setting their sights on the full marathon events which will be taking place across the country in April.
Running alongside the 20-mile race was a half-marathon over 13.1-miles. This saw 4 Sittingbourne Striders putting their best foot forward to return some fantastic times.
James Reeves finished 37th in 1.35.32. Clive Crisp was next in 1.49.27. 3rd back for the team was David Whittley in 2.02.08 followed closely by Jeff Fox in 2.10.05. Full Results
