Sittingbourne Striders 10 Mile 2017 : 1st October 2017

The Sittingbourne Striders 10 mile road race was another success with a record number of entries. Despite damp windy conditions nearly 400 runners lined up at the start and were set off by Race Director Emma Pomeroy.

The club are grateful to their Main Sponsor Bennett Opies for their generous support and also to Beadles Skoda for providing a personalised lead car which led the runners on the 10 miles route through Rodmersham, Kingsdown, Doddington and back to Highsted School.  In addition there was a 2k Fun Run which attracted 120 runners from pre-school up to adult beginner runners, all of whom received a brightly coloured medal and ribbon. There was also a school team prize which was won by Westlands Primary. The Boy’s prize was won by Caleb Spriggs, 2nd was Ben Procter and 3rd Reece Lee. The Girl’s prize was won by Violet Bing, 2nd was Iris Bartlett and 3rd Alice Brown.

Tewelde Menges

 
The Main race was won by Tewelde Menges from Medway & Maidstone AC in a time of 54:57 and the first lady home was Liz Weeks also from Medway & Maidstone AC in a time of 1:04:14. The Men’s trophies were presented by Philip Opie of Bennett Opies and the Ladies’ by the daughter of Chas Ryman in whose name the race is in memory.

The first Male and Female Sittingbourne Striders home were Lee Simpson and Jo Pettitt respectively.
All the finishers received a medal, a T-shirt and a goodie bag. There was also cakes available baked by club members.
Next Year’s race is planned for Sunday 7th October and we hope to see you there.
