Event: Outlaw Half Triathlon
Date: Sunday 29th May 2016
Location: Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham
The morning alarm call of 4am seemed a distant memory for the 20 Striders as they made there way to the Regatta lake @ The National Watersports Centre for The Outlaw Half Triathlon in Nottingham. The first wave set off at 6.30 with the next 3 groups following at 10 minute intervals until 7am for the final ladies wave tackling the algae and a 1.2mile out and back swim.
Out the lake for a quick transition to the bike leg, which took the competitors on a fast, relatively flat but windy 56mile course around the lanes of Nottingham. Finishing back at the water sports centre they hopped off their bikes (numb toes not helping) to tackle a 2 lap, 13.1mile run around the lake and river path. So many things can go wrong in a triathlon so it’s great to report that all 20 Striders made it along the red carpet over the finish line and collected their well deserved medal and ‘Outlaw’ title.
James Brincat was the first Strider home in a time of 4:49:34 placing him a very impressive 61st out of 1108 overall. Matthew Norris was 2nd Strider home in a time of 5:05:05 placing him 146th in the field. In 3rd spot was Philip Jackson in a time of 5:07:27 placing him 168th overall. First female home was Lynne Hacon in a time of 5:58:07 placing her 635 overall.
Special mention to the following at this their first half: Paul Bowditch; Jamie Goldthorp; Martin Ingram; Matt Nunn; Anthony Jackson; Charles Smith; Joseph Lovelock, Glenn Davies and Matthew Kingsnorth who was unfortunate to encounter some delay with a puncture.
