Location: Weymouth, Dorset
Distance: 1.9k swim, 92k ride, 21.1k run
Four members of Sittingbourne Striders took part in their inaugural Ironman Weymouth 70.3. 2800 athletes rushed into the sea at 7am for the 1.9k swim in the bay. Neil Hacon was the first Strider out of the water and onto the 92k bike race. The bike course took the competitors inland past Dorchester over the picturesque rolling hills of Dorset before looping back down to the coastline. With the bike leg complete it was onto the half marathon. The run consisted of 2 1/2 laps of the Weymouth esplanade, cheered on by friends and family enjoying an ice cream in the September sun. Neil Hacon was the first Strider across the line in 5:32, Phil Jackson 5:51, Lynne Hacon 6:06 and Nick Bayntun 6:17. Lynne Hacon’s result put her 4th in her age group, which was enough to secure a place in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships!
