Sunday Training Runs - Sunday 22nd November- Christmas

Due to a number of races over the next few weeks, there will be no training runs on Sunday morning from the Community College until the New Year.

Sunday Training Runs - 27/05/09

From Sunday 31st May, Sunday training runs will be from Sittingbourne Community college at 8am as usual.

Striders On Tour - Summer 2009

Once again, we will be holding our popular “Doddington” run this year.  As stated at the AGM, it is on Tuesday, 23 June, starting at 7:30 pm at The Chequers PH, Doddington.  Non – Striders / guests are very welcome.

Those master course craftsmen, Pateman and Shrimplin, are planning a similar 5 mile cross country route as in previous years, including the favourites, “happy valley” and “the sting in the tail”.

Always keen to improve the evening, they are negotiating with a well known local celebrity – “Bobsleigh Bob”, to give a short, free presentation afterwards in the PH.  “Bobsleigh” is, like many Striders, getting on a bit in years but he will show that you can still be inspired to meet new challenges. “Bobsleigh” will tell us how he gave up a life as a city-slicker (a big thing in “tin” apparently) to concentrate on his ambition to make the UK National Bobsleigh Super Veteran squad, intent on competing in the next Winter Olympics.  Being old and often thought of as being “past it”, he can be an inspiration to many a Strider.

We are also planning a second “on tour” evening, on Tuesday 21 July, again at 7:30 pm, but starting at The Ringlestone PH.  It will be a part road – part Pilgrims Way 5 mile route, including a slight incline or two.  As a bonus we are hoping that we can…at no cost…get a chap called “Pyschic Bob” to come along afterwards (don’t worry – he is not a runner), and tell us about what his techniques have revealed in the Ringlestone.  As some of you may know, the Ringlestone is supposed to be haunted, but “Pyschic”, drawing on his experience working on the paranormal with the Swedish Police Force, will sort out the facts from the fiction.  So…don’t be scared ladies, it should be a date you dare not miss!  Again, guests welcome.

Male and Female Strider of the year - 28/04/09

The male and female strider of the year were decided at the AGM on Tuesday; the male winner was Les Jackson and the female winner was Liz Weeks.

Les Jackson
Les has been ever present at most of the races including the X Country’s either taking part or with camera in hand.  It is for his skill with the camera that has been the most impressive and it is down to his dedication and photographic skills that we have been able to produce the annual club calendar.  Les also turns up on most club nights on a Tuesday and often stays with the slowest runner, so they are not left on their own.
Liz Weeks

Liz’s contribution to the club over the past year has been immense.    A regular at club nights on a Tuesday and representing the club at numerous races, but it is in the X Country that she has really made a difference.  With Liz’s contribution the club finished 3rd overall our highest finish ever, she finished as the 5th lady.  Not content with that she has now taken over the club web site, and you can see the results of her endeavours for yourselves.

Kent Fitness League Cross Country - 02/02/09

After 7 gruelling races, Sittingbourne Striders have achieved an excellent 3rd Place in the Kent Fitness Cross Country League. A big team effort in the final race of the season at Knole Park on Sunday allowed us to over take Canterbury to take 3rd Place - our best result ever.

Overall, the mens team came 3rd and the womens team came 6th.

The full results and individual standings can be viewed on the Kent Fitness League website.
